Jehovah Rohi, Your Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known of Mine. As the Father knoweth Me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.” (John 10:14-15)

When you picture sheep going astray in your mind, do you only imagine naughty little sheep bounding away from the flock because they just don’t want to follow the Shepherd and want to go their own way?  I would like to suggest another mental picture for you, those little lambs who are sick or injured, and just feel like they can’t keep up with the rest of the fold. They have struggled physically, mentally and emotionally and get so weary they feel it is too hard to follow the Shepherd and just gradually wander away. Does that describe you?

Your Shepherd, Jehovah Rohi, has never let you out of His sight if you are truly one of His. Hebrews 13:5 says, “for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” He knows you by name, and He only wants you to rest in His loving arms. He is a caring Shepherd, and He won’t ever let you wander off through life alone.

Sometimes when you are ill and hurting, with the enemy filling you with despair, lies and fear, you need to just take a rest and stay as close to the Shepherd as you possibly can. He won’t abandon you, He is always there watching. Be determined not to give up. Read His words of love to you, talk to Him and tell Him all your troubles, and let Him carry you awhile until you have a little more strength to carry on.

  1. Thank you, Julie, for the reminder of the care of our Great Shepherd. How He is always watching over us and taking care of us and we can truly rest in Him.
