His lies are some of his greatest weapons against us. John 8:44 says, “He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” This verse says that absolutely everything he says is a lie. There is no truth in him. And he will constantly use lies to beat us down and take away our faith and our happiness. He will bombard your mind with thoughts that go against what God is telling us in our heart and in His Word. The reason the enemy uses lies is because he is defeated. Lies are all he has. So we have to recognize them for what they are and not believe them.
We have to expose these lies and fight them with truth. Where do we get truth? “Thy word is truth.” (John 17:17). If anything you are thinking is contrary to God’s word, then it is a LIE, and it is from Satan. Simple enough.
Have you ever had the thought that God does not love you or care about what you are going through? I admit those thoughts have crossed my mind, mostly during the darkest times in my life. Those thoughts are used quite a lot against Christians. That is a first strike in his attack, and if he can get you to believe it, he can wedge his way in to separate you from God. And Satan is waiting for just the right time to strike.
The enemy also fills our thoughts with unbelief, fear, and thoughts of being unworthy. Believing any of these lies will pull us farther and farther from our Father. That is his goal. If you are God’s, he cannot take you completely away from Him, but he can make you doubt Him and take you as far away from God as he can and break your close fellowship with Him.
John 8:32 says, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Free from what? Free from the hold Satan wants to put on you. If you are believing the lies he is telling you, then he already has a hold on you.
In 1 John 4:4 we see, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” Believe me, the enemy is going to try to make your life very difficult. He is constantly after Christians, and he does not have a heart! When you are down, maybe to your lowest point, he is NOT going to feel sorry for you and let up and take it easy on you. That may be the time he strikes the hardest. So know your enemy. Fight the unseen battle raging all around you with the word of God and with prayer. We need God’s help to win this battle of the mind. Remember that Satan’s power was destroyed at the cross as we see in Colossians 2:15, “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” So now the only power he now has is to deceive Christians and to try to separate them from God and from the body of Christ.
When you are bombarded by thoughts that obviously aren’t from God, I encourage you to find verses that proclaim the truth. Go on-line and find every Bible verse that you can to support what God says and then use those verses in prayer. Prayer and scripture together are very powerful. Memorize the verses that will help you in the future when you have those same thoughts again and again, because Satan will keep attacking if he thinks he can break you down. If you look at the full armor of God in Ephesians chapter 6, you will notice that everything mentioned is defensive except the sword, which is the Word of God. This is what we can use against the devil to bring him down. So keep using those verses against him (the sword), and he will be defeated
