Who is the enemy? Is it your illness? Is it your chronic pain? Is it your body that refuses to function properly? No. None of these are the enemy. You have only one enemy in this whole world, and that is Satan. Don’t ever lose sight of that fact. Try to always look at everything that is happening in your life from a spiritual point of view, with spiritual eyes. Put aside what is SEEN, and try to comprehend what is NOT seen. Picture in your mind, if you will, a battle going on around you, good versus evil. Because that is exactly what is happening, as we see in Ephesians 6:12, which says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
If you do not know Christ personally, it is a battle for your very soul. If you do know Christ, it is a battle to make you ineffective as a Christian. The devil doesn’t need to make you fall into some horrible sinful life. No, he is more clever than that. All he needs to make you do is…nothing. If you do nothing for Christ, or if he breaks your fellowship with God, he has succeeded in his goal.
In any battle, it is very important to know your enemy in order to defeat him. We need to know how he thinks, how he attacks, and what weapons he will use against us. God has given us that information in His Word. In this chapter, we will look at the spiritual world around us, and how Satan will do everything he can to destroy our faith and dependence on God, even go so far as to make us question our belief in God. In my next post, we will look at some facts we know about the enemy.
